Remote Testing For CMA, CSCA Exams

By Lori Parks
February 1, 2022

Beginning January 18, 2022, candidates for the English-language CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) exam and for the CSCA® (Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis) exam can register to take their exams either in person at a Prometric test center or remotely using Prometric’s ProProctor service.

“Given the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and the recent advances in remote testing, it is an appropriate time for us to begin remote proctoring for our CMA and CSCA candidates,” said Dennis Whitney, IMA® senior vice president of certifications, exams, and content integration. “In 2022, we are beginning to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CMA program. Remote proctoring is one in a series of continuous enhancements to the CMA program that makes it the leading advanced certification for accounting and finance professionals in business.”

In order to test remotely, a candidate’s internet and computer system must meet certain capacity and stability requirements. Other requirements extend to where the test must be taken: A candidate must be situated in a well-lit room (walled) with a closed door and free from background noise and disruptions (an at-home location is preferred, rather than one at work). The room’s entrance must be in full view of the camera, and the workstation and surrounding area (including the walls) must be free of pictures, office supplies, electronic devices, and other materials. Prior to taking the exam, candidates must complete a 30-minute Prometric check-in process. There will also be help available should any technical difficulties arise while a candidate is taking the test.

Candidates who have already signed up to take the exam at a Prometric test center may switch to a remote testing format, provided they first cancel their original appointment. A rescheduling fee may apply.
