Call For Ethics Papers

By Christopher Dowsett, CAE
March 1, 2022

The IMA® Committee on Ethics and Strategic Finance invite submissions for the 2023 Curt Verschoor Ethics Feature of the Year.

The competition aims to highlight a work that contributes to a greater understanding of ethics within the business environment for management accounting and finance professionals, whether through new research, insightful analysis of a real-world event or scenario, or practical solutions to the ethical challenges of the day.

Entries must follow the manuscript guidelines for Strategic Finance. A submission should be (1) approximately 2,500 to 3,000 words in length, (2) written in English, and (3) an original, unpublished work that isn’t available to other publishers.

The deadline for entries is September 1, 2022. All entries will complete a double-blind review process for initial evaluation, followed by the final selection of the winner by the IMA Committee on Ethics in December 2022. The winning entry will be published in the March 2023 issue of Strategic Finance. In addition, the winning contributor(s) will have the opportunity to adapt their article into a slideshow and present it at an IMA Faculty Friday webcast.

Submissions should be sent to sfmag@imanet.org. Please use the subject line “Curt Verschoor Ethics Feature” and include a completed submission form. Questions regarding the competition can be sent to sfmag@imanet.org.

Previous winning articles include “The Value of Trust” in 2020, which examined the importance and benefits of trust in the proper functioning and sustainability of an organization, and “Why Good People Do Bad Things at Work” in 2021, which detailed a research study on the motivations and causes of unethical behavior in the workplace. See this year’s winner, “How Ethics and Compliance Fight Corruption,” on the March website page.
